Song of the Day #109 – They Might Be Giants

There’s only one band in the entire world that’s brave/crazy enough to write songs about President James K. Polk, the Mesopotamians, and the Edison Museum in NJ. Of course, I’m referring to the one and only They Might Be Giants, who’ve been making their extremely quirky, yet strangely addictive, brand of pop music since 1982. Today’s video is a live performance of Instanbul at a Barnes & Noble Bookstore in New York in December, 2009.

For many years I was under the mistaken impression that this was an original TMBG song. It turns out this is a cover of a song originally recorded by a Canadian band called The Four Lads in 1953. Here’s what the original, slower tempo version sounded like.
